ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT PLAN: AN OVERVIEW

The TFS Alumni Association (TFSAA) collaborated with the Office of Advancement & Alumni Relations last year, to develop an engagement plan to provide a strategic framework for alumni relations programming. The plan supports our collective effort to grow and strengthen alumni involvement and participation. This includes building a visible alumni presence and culture of engagement that encompasses student life and beyond as alumni.

Together, we identified five key objectives for engagement:

  • Strengthen the awareness of alumni among current students in school life
  • Enlarge opportunities for active engagement between alumni, future graduates and parents
  • Build a culture of giving at TFS
  • Promote the TFS alumni network and give back to alumni through the establishment of a benefit and perks program and,
  • Enhance the presence of alumni relations internally and externally

As a result, the following new initiatives were introduced last year, in addition to our ongoing programs (mentorship opportunities, networking and reunion events, Alumni of Distinction awards and outreach for school activities):

  • Design of an alumni logo
  • Establishment of an alumni pin (distributed to Level V students prior to graduation and to alumni at various events)
  • Launch of a grad floral program (graduating families may purchase a bouquet or boutonnière for their child’s graduation)
  • Launch of a benefits and perks program
  • Branded alumni merchandise and activities
Initiatives underway in 2015:
  • Review and revitalization of the Class Representative program – to actively engage class reps and explore new ways to sustain the program.
  • Develop an alumni microsite – a dedicated website for alumni that features alumni programs, activities and engagement.
  • Alumni 2 Alumni program – develop a business directory with perks for alumni and TFS community –alumni, parents, staff and faculty –where, they can access the services of fellow alumni. This initiative also includes the introduction of a TFS alumni membership card, to promote and enhance the program.
  • Lecture series – establishing a series of lectures that showcase outstanding alumni and elevate their presence and interaction with students, parents, staff and faculty.
  • Annual social events – expanding the scale of social events by hosting “chapter events” in key cities. This will also encompass networking opportunities that coincide with the Head’s or staff travels, when possible.
  • Awareness of alumni in student life –strengthening connections with Senior School students through mentorship, networking and alumni sponsored activities. New initiatives include a grad care card, hosting a grad breakfast for Level V’s and reviving chapter events in key cities.
Community Supper Highlights

Thank you to everyone who attended our inaugural community supper on November 27 and made it a success! It was a wonderful evening and we received a positive response and overwhelming support of the alumni engagement plan. The feedback that was shared will assist us as we move forward to deliver programs and activities that are of value to you, our alumni. From the evening’s discussion, the following key suggestions were collected and will be used to further enhance the engagement plan.

  • Continuation of the social and networking events organized by the TFSAA
  • Provide more opportunities to:
    • Share updates about your events and performances with alumni
    • Mentor current students about career and university choices
  • Interact with current parents
  • Provide opportunities and visibility to promote alumni businesses and services to each other and the TFS community
  • Create easier access for alumni to connect by revisiting the alumni database.

There was also support for the review and revitalization of the Class Reps program and the new Entrance Scholarships program, one of the priorities of Soaring Beyond: The Campaign for TFS.
