Whenever alumni come to visit, I am struck by how much their success is built on the unique perspective that a bilingual and international education provides. This makes it all the more meaningful to be able to extend the gift of a TFS education to students who may not otherwise be able to attend this wonderful school.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, we have established an Entrance Scholarship program that aligns with the foundational ideals of the school. Because education opens doors, this exciting initiative will alter the course of several lives by making the school accessible to superb young people of diverse backgrounds.
The program will also have a broader impact. By expanding the socio-economic and cultural diversity of our school, entrance scholarships enhance the learning environment. When talented and interesting young people join our community, they enrich the student body and magnify the personal development exemplified in the IB Learner Profile.
We have established a $1 million nonendowed Entrance Scholarship Fund, which will be supported through annual fundraising. The two Grade 7 full entrance scholarships that we aim to provide on an annual basis will include tuition, books, incidental fees and uniform, and will be renewable through to graduation based on academic standing and continuing financial need.
We hope to welcome the first TFS Entrance Scholar for the 2016-17 school year.
Each year, targeted outreach will search for candidates who meet the high academic and merit criteria, and, who have a demonstrated financial need. Recipients will then be selected through a careful process that includes a personal interview and review by the Scholarship Committee.
The Entrance Scholarship program is an expression of TFS’ mission to enable students of diverse backgrounds to reach their full potential. I am thrilled by the progress we have made so far, and encourage all of you to consider bestowing the gift of perspective and excellence on future generations of learners.
